설명1. My authorities are in broad agreement with the analysis and policy recommendations included in the staff report for the 1996 Article IV Consultation with Korea. They would like to convey their appreciation for the very useful discussions with the staff in August and for the quality and breadth of the papers prepared for today’s Board meeting. We attach great importance to the Article IV consultation process and always look forward to an interesting and wide-ranging exchange of views at the Executive Board. 2. This year has been particularly significant for Korea, in terms of our SEGYEEIWA, or globalization, initiative. Most notably, Korea has been invited to join the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). My authorities intend to play an active and constructive role in these organizations. In addition, my authorities have participated in the discussions for the New Arrangements to Borrow (NAB). These moves signal my government’s strong desire to assume a more active role in international fora. Korea intends to contribute importantly to the ongoing policy debate concerning the international monetary system.
