설명Summing Up by the Acting Chairman Seventh and Eighth Reviews Under the Stand-By Arrangement with the Republic of Korea Executive Board Meeting 00/84 August 23,2000 Executive Directors commended the authorities on the considerable achievements under their program, supported by the Fund. Consumption and investment have bounced back, export growth has been vigorous, capital inflows have been high, and external vulnerability has been significantly reduced. Indeed, with output growth this year again set to exceed 8 percent, and inflation still in check, Korea’s economic performance has been most impressive. Substantial progress has also been made in advancing structural reforms, which is increasing the market orientation and efficiency of the economy. Directors welcomed the authorities’ intention not to make further drawings under the Stand-By Arrangement, in view of the stronger external situation, and several Directors considered that it would be appropriate for Korea to make advance repurchases of Fund credit and to be included in the Fund’s financial transactions plan.
