REPUBLIC OF KOREA-REQUEST FOR PUBLICATION The Executive Directors continued fi-om Executive Board Meeting 97/l 17 (12/8/97) their consideration of a request by the Korean authorities to publish the stti paper on the Republic of Korea’s requestf or a Stand-ByA rrangemen(t EBS/97/222, 12/3/97:C or. 1, 12/4/97: and Sup. 1, 12/4/97). Mr. Kwon statedt hat two dayse arlier oneo f the Korean newspapersh ad published details of the program, which indicated that the press had obtained the entire staff paper (EBS/97/222). Following that, there had been much of speculation on the program and pressure from the public for further information. He regretted to inform the Board that his authoritiesh ad, therefore,r eleasedth e staff papert o the press.N everthelessh, is authorities wished to make a formal requestt o the Board for releaseo f the staff paper.
